2nd & 3rd Rolls of B&W 35mm Film -- 1959-60 PAGE 3
Close-up photos and portraits are difficult to make with cameras, such as the Kodak Signet 40 that have no focusing aids and parallax correction. In addition, the large lens opening required for available light photography reduces the depth of field and makes focusing even more critical. Never the less, there are some nice portraits of my little sister and brother and their friends and some other interesting available light pictures. There are two pictures of buildings along the main street of Morrilton and some pictures at the waterfall and bluff near Coplin Cave. I used some Kodachrome and Ektachrome film during the year, but apparently these where the next two rolls of black and white. I think they were commercially processed, but I'm not sure. View east on Main St (SH64) at the intersection with SH95. The railroad track and station are south of Main. Corner Drug, Rexall Drug, and Western Auto are on the north side.

This is a view of the northeast bank of the Arkansas River at the SH 9 bridge. This was made long before the river was dammed.

There is a high bluff on the southeast bank of the West Fork of the Point Remove Creek. This photo shows a tree that grows from a trail near the top of the bluff. The trail can be reached from the top of the bluff by climbing down the tree. It's an adventure for young kids. I was even able to take my children there to climb down the tree and explore.

This is the view over the top of the cliff at the waterfall. There is a big pool at the bottom of the fall during rainy weather. A dam of rubble has collected there. The water then runs on down the hillside to the creek.

Kaye was a good friend of my oldest sister. They are a year younger than I am. I think this was taken about the time they started to the University of Arkansas. I can't remember the location or the occasion.

I bought this doll while working at the Sterling Stores warehouse in Little Rock during the summer of 1959. I think I gave it to my little sister whose portrait is in this set.

Some items on my desk at home. My high school annual photo and a photo of Kaye and a loose-leaf binder open to a picture of May Britt in the movie 'Blue Angel' that I took during the movie. There are 35mm film cans, cassettes, and boxes. Kodak flash guns. A simple tripod. Close-up lenses in plastic cases and filters.

My step-dad scoured the hills of rural north Arkansas collecting old clocks. This compares viewfinder view actual area photographed. A tripod held the view and allowed a longer exposure with a smaller lens opening. Light was from a south window to the right of the camera. The picture is low and to the right of the viewfinder.
