The hatched area of the inset map is the Ozark National Forest. Apparently it takes up much less of the state than I thought it did, but it is still a very large area. Highway 7 is the only road shown in the forest. The Ozarks Wildlife Club is identified by a tag on the north side of the Forest near the east corner where a branch off of 7 leaves the Forest. I grew up in Cleveland, Arkansas, on the tip of the southeast corner of the Forest. A mileage arrow points from Conway to Cleveland. Highways 64 and 65 cross in Conway. Further north on Highway 65 are Harrison, Arkansas, and Branson, Missouri. Little Rock is at the lower edge near the right side. Little Rock is within a couple of miles of the geographic center of the state. Highway 64 comes from Memphis, Tennessee, to Conway, Russelville, and Ft. Smith. Highway 71 crosses Highway 64 at Alma, east of Ft. Smith, and follows the west side of the Forest to Fayetteville, where the University of Arkansas is located, and to Springdale and Rodgers. This map was made in the late '50s or early '60s before Beaver Lake was completed east of Springdale and before the Interstate Highways were built through Arkansas. From Rogers a highway swings northeast into Missouri and along Bull Shoals Lake on the White River.
