Ouachita River Crossings
State Highway 8
at Arkadelphia
The small college town of Arkadelphia is situated on the west bank of the Ouachita River about 30 miles downstream from Malvern. State Highways 8 and 51 cross the river on this bridge. The railroad bridge is a little further downstream. A nice, but steep, boat launching ramp is located just upstream of the bridge and it seems to be a 'take-out' point for canoists. Two young couples had tied up at this location waiting to be picked up. The water is a little dirty from recent rains, but the fellows seemed to be enjoying their swim. The girls were up in the parking lot waiting. The elevation of the river at this point is about 200 feet. The river tends back toward the south southeast at Arkadelphia.
